ICA23 is just around the corner. Hopefully this FAQ answers all your questions. If not, please check the ICA FAQ or email CSaB Chair Richard Huskey (rwhuskey@ucdavis.edu).
FAQs
Where can I find the schedule?
The full ICA schedule is available online and via the printed program. We also have compiled a schedule at a glance.
How do I log into the Virtual Platform (Hybrid Meeting Location)?
When logging into the Virtual Platform, use your ICA membership information.
I’m presenting, how long should my talk be?
Talks in HIGH-DENSITY panels should be 7 minutes max. This is the default panel format. If you are in a panel with four presenters, plan on a 15 minute presentation.
I’m giving a poster, how big should it be?
Posters should be 6 feet wide by 4 feet high, max. Please see the ICA poster guidance for complete details.
I’m presenting in a HIGH-DENSITY panel, what do I need to do?
Please come with your presentation ready to share either on a thumb drive or via a URL. Ideally, we’ll load all presentations onto one laptop per panel. If you need to use your own laptop, be sure that you can connect via HDMI.
I’m presenting in a HYBRID HIGH-DENSITY panel, what do I need to do?
- If you are presenting in person:
- Email your PowerPoint to the panel chair. If you have special fonts or are using a program other than PowerPoint, email a PDF. If your presentation has videos, embed them in the PowerPoint.
- Speaker notes will not be viewable during the presentation.
- If you are presenting remotely:
- You should have received an email with detailed instructions and a unique URL to access the panel
- If you have not received this email, please contact conference@icahdq.org
- If you were originally planning to present in person but need to switch to a remote presentation:
- Please contact conference@icahdq.org
My presentation is scheduled in the “Top Papers in Communication Science & Biology” panel. Did I win a top paper?
Yep! Congratulations on this accomplishment! Please also join us at the business meeting to receive your award.
I’m chairing a panel, what do I do?
Please introduce each speaker in the order they are listed in the program. You’ll need to monitor the time and stop presentations that go longer than 7 minutes. Once all talks are complete, help moderate the Q&A at the end of each session (we will not take questions between talks).
What is the Welcome Meeting?
This is new for ICA23. This meeting is open to all members. Early Career Researchers (ECRs) are encouraged to attend; one goal is to help ECRs connect with distinguished scholars. We’ll also have light refreshments. RSVP is requested (but not required).
What is the Business Meeting?
We give awards (Top Papers, Outstanding Contribution to Communication Science, Rising Star)! We talk about upcoming elections and CSaB strategic planning. We share details about ICA24 (location, hotel costs, theme). We connect. This is a great way to understand how CSaB functions.
What is the Joint Reception?
It’s a party! Every year, CSaB teams up with our colleagues from Information Systems, Computational Methods, Human Machine Communication, and Game Studies to throw a party. We’ll have free beer, wine, soft drinks, and water. This is a great way to meet friends (new and old) at ICA!
What is the Research Escalator?
This is a conference submission for work in progress. If your Research Escalator submission was accepted, you should have received a scheduling email from Richard Huskey, if not send him an email (rwhuskey@ucdavis.edu).
I still have other questions, where should I look?
